- Abraham Lincoln
Good Friday fell on this date 138 years ago. It was the day Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln died the next day.
Before he was president, Abraham Lincoln defended a French Canadian priest named Fr. Charles Chiniquay in a libel suit in Chicago, Illinois. The two men became friends. Fr. Chiniquay left the Catholic Church in 1858 and joined the Presbyterian Church. He later falsely accused Jesuit priests and the Vatican of masterminding Lincoln's assassination.
