Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia!
Because the son you were chosen to bear, alleluia!
Has risen, as he said, alleluia!
Pray for us to God, alleluia!
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!
Because the Lord is truly risen, alleluia!
O God, who by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, granted joy to the whole world, grant, we beseech you, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, his Mother, we may enjoy the happiness of eternal life, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Back when horses pulled the plow, the farmer would bring them to a halt when the church bell rang so that he could pray the Angelus. The horses became accustomed to this and would stop on their own at the sound of the bell. Some farmers say that the horses even bowed their heads during the prayer.
