The letters of Paul (written roughly between 50 and 60 A.D.) often contain advice about prayer. Here are some samples:
- "The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes." (Rom 8:26)
- "With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit." (Eph 6:18)
And today's advice:
- Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks." (1 Thess 5:17-18)
Paul emphasized that we not only want to pray but we also need to pray in the Spirit.
When you pray, you never have to worry about what to say. The Spirit is within you. All you have to do is open yourself to the guidance of the Spirit, and see where the Spirit takes you.
You are in the midst of the Easter season, a holy time of the year. You can't help but experience the presence of God within you, around you.
It would be a shame to miss this golden opportunity to enjoy prayer ... to pray as Jesus prayed ... as the early Church prayed.
You were made for this.
