This particular Sunday, two days after the Lord's crucifixion, has been quite a day.
First, the body is missing from the tomb. Then, Mary Magdalene claims that she has seen and talked to the risen Jesus. Finally, Jesus appears to the disciples as a group - except for Thomas who may simply have gone out for a walk. After all, the disciples weren't expecting anything special to happen that day. They weren't expecting anything to happen period
You're with the disciples when Thomas returns and they tell him about the Lord's appearance. They're excited, all talking at once. Then Thomas says, "I don't believe you." They're stunned. How could he not believe?
"Well, you guys didn't believe it when Mary Magdalene said she had seen the Lord. I don't believe it when you say you saw him." That's it. Thomas then goes off by himself.
You go over to talk to Thomas. He says, "I know we have to have faith. But faith doesn't come from other people telling you. If Jesus has risen, I need somehow to experience his presence. Do you know what I mean?"
