In this parable, Jesus is talking about the last judgment, and how we will be accountable for how we used everything God gave us. We're supposed to use all our talents and possessions well.
But there is a prior truth that lies at the core of the whole thing: Everything we have belongs to God.
That is the heart and soul of stewardship.
This is clear in the parable. The master entrusted his servants with his money, and they were to use it - not bury it or hard it - on his behalf, to the best of their ability.
Everything you have - your money, your possessions, your abilities, your time, your talents, your opportunities - all belong to God. They are give to you so that you can use them well on God's behalf.
This is a radical belief.
O God, help us to use your gifts well today.
