- Matthew 4:1-11
The devil is a sly one. Leaping off the temple was a set-up, staged - not the stuff of real life.
Faith is not something you demonstrate by constructing an artificial situation. True faith is shown by acts of trust in God in real-life situations.
Faith requires great trust. It is a leap because there is not always a bridge of clear logic that we can walk across. We have to let ourselves go into the arms of God.
We make a leap of faith when we forgive someone who doesn't deserve it, trusting that this is the true way to live.
We make a leap of faith when our lives, for whatever reason, seems to be a mess but we still carry on, trusting that the Lord is walking with us.
We make a leap of faith when we come to Eucharist and, with Jesus, give ourselves to the Father. "Not my will but yours be done."
We make a leap of faith when we take the real things in our lives - food, material things, money, time - and give them to God and trust that God will take care of us.
Stewardship is a leap of faith in real-life situations.
