Begun in October 2012 through a partnership between the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and Outside Da Box, the VCAT is an attempt to recreate the Catechism of the Catholic Church in video form. This undertaking is designed to provide a resource for communicating the teachings of the Catechism to today's youth. From VCAT.org: "It is estimated that a teenager consumes a staggering 10 hours and 45 minutes of media content each day. Of that content, 4 hours and 29 minutes is spent watching videos (whether on TV, Internet sites such as Hulu, YouTube, etc.)" By creating videos, the VCAT is taking the same message the Church has always taught and translating it into the language of today's youth.
The VCAT, just like the Catechism itself, is divided into 4 parts: Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer. Each section will be the focus of one year's worth of videos, released monthly throughout the year. When the final video is released in September 2016, the VCAT will consist of a collection of 49 videos along with discussion guides. From time to time, we will feature VCAT videos on our blog and talk about how the video connects back to our Catholic faith.
