If you look in a regular dictionary, you’ll see that the word “Epiphany” means either an appearance or a sudden perception of an idea. Some people would call it an “Aha” moment. These definitions relate perfectly to the way the Church uses “Epiphany.” For Christians, this is a feast day which originally commemorated three things: the visit of the Magi, the Baptism of the Lord and the miracle at the Wedding at Cana. In each of these events, Jesus revealed His true nature as the Son of God. In this way, these three events represent “Aha” moments for us as followers of Christ. They are chances to glimpse His full nature and, in doing so, come to a better understanding of His relationship with the Father and our relationship with both.
