- Eduardo Bonnin Aguilo, founder of the Cursillos in Christianity
A Cursillo is a renewal experience (similar to a retreat), which helps people examine and improve their lives and encourages them to get involved in social action.
Begun in Majorca, Spain, by a group of laymen in 1949, the program came to the United States in 1957 and continues to be particularly popular with Hispanic Catholics.
A weekend Cursillo is followed by a post-Cursillo in which small groups of participants come together to share their faith life.
The concept behind a Cursillo is that by changing one's life in accord with Christ's teaching, and then gathering with like-minded people, the world might be transformed.
