Early in John's Passion account, when peter struck the high priest's servant with a sword, Jesus responded: "Put your sword into its scabbard. Shall I not drink the cup that the Father gave me?"
Now, after the scourging, the mockery, the walk to Golgotha carrying the cross, being nailed to the cross, Jesus expresses the same determination to drink the cup to the full: "I thirst."
Jesus' whole life was dedicated to fulfilling the Father's will. At the Last Supper, he had said to his disciples: "I love the Father and I do just as the Father has commanded me."
You too can say, "O God, you created me and put em on earth for a purpose."
Everyone needs a sense of purpose in life. To know that you have one, and that it was given to you by God is a wonderful thing.
So often the day-to-day matters you deal with may not seem to fit what you would consider God-given designs ... but handing on a cross doesn't seem to fit with God's purpose either.
You do not see with God's eyes. So each day you say, "O God, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Help me to fulfill that purpose today."
