You enjoyed this marvelous scene - the risen Jesus to Mary Magdalene. Two good friends, at ease with one another, glad to be together. you wonder to yourself if you should be more at ease with Jesus.
You hear Jesus refer to the disciples as "my brothers." You picture him referring to you in the same familial way.
Then, his most astounding words of all: "I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."
Mary keeps looking at Jesus, still speaking not a word. She simply nods her head "yes" as if to say, "Yes. Now I understand."
Without taking her eyes off him, Mary stands up, backs up a few steps, then turns and runs toward town.
You continue looking at the Lord, and the truth begins to sink in. "'My Father and your father, my God and your God.' That's why you became one of us. That's why you're going to God. To stand before God and say, 'These are my brothers and sisters. I stand with them and they with me. These are your sons and daughters.'"
Mary has to go and tell the disciples. But you can stay right here and talk to the Lord about this. "Are you really a brother to me?"
