After the washing of the feet, Jesus returns to the table and begins to speak to his disciples. It is called the "Last Supper discourse" ... and continues for nearly five chapters.
Most of the material in this discourse is found only in John's Gospel. John begins the Last Supper noting that Jesus "loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end." He is just hours away from death.
Because of its depth, analysis can be very difficult - ask anyone who preaches at these weekday Masses. However, like a great work of art, it is best approached through prayerful meditation rather then intellectual analysis.
Starting on the Friday of the Fourth Week of Easter and concluding 18 days later, the weekday Gospels will be taken from the Last Supper discourse.
