Zephaniah was a prophet who lived 700 years before Christ. Prophets, like him, are meant to call us to the basic truths of God that we sometimes forget.
The next lines of today's reading from Zephaniah were read at mass on the Third Sunday of Advent. They contained a beautiful image: "The Lord your God is in your midst. The Lord our God will rejoice over you with singing."
God sings over us?
When was the last time somebody sang over you? Probably when you were a child, the way a parent holds a child and sings to it.
When you think of yourself being held by God that way, and God singing over you, the you realize how precious you are to God. You realize how much God loves you and how much God takes care of you.
Whatever is going on in your life right now, whatever is going on in the world right now, you need to take some time to just enjoy the thought that God hold you, sings over you, and loves you.
There's no comfort greater than that.
