Today's passage describes in familiar and understandable terms your close relationship with god. Jesus has made it possible for you to be God's son, God's daughter, not just in some future life, but here and now.
You are called upon to love like God because you are made in god's image. But you're not God so your love is always imperfect. Nobody has perfect love, but God found a way to make imperfect love work out for you.
What a gift.
The Scriptures describe a remarkable chain reaction: God is love. God loves Jesus. With the same love, Jesus loves you. And with the same love, we are to love one another.
Imagine that.
