The Gospel of John teaches that there is continuity, but also transformation. On the one hand, the person who rises is the same person who lived on earth, and something of the particular life and history of that person carries over into life after death. john teaches this by talking about the Risen Jesus showing his wounds.
On the other hand, there are major differences, even in appearance. John teaches this by referring to the difficulty the close friends of Jesus had in recognizing him after the resurrection. Mary Magdalene thought he was the gardener at the cemetery. Luke teaches this by having two disciples on the way to Emmaus walk several miles with Jesus, not knowing who he was.
