In the parable of the sower, Jesus tells us about the way he gives out his gifts, particularly the gift of the Word of God. Jesus might say, "I know that in you there are footpaths and some rocky ground, and some thorns. But I also know that there is some good soil. And where I sow, I sow lavishly."
The seed of the Word of God falls upon us, and when it finds good soil, it grows and develops into God's kingdom - a kingdom of peace, justice, truth and love. A kingdom where all people and all creation come together.
We need to make sure we are not letting the seed of the Word of God bounce off my life, like seed hitting a sidewalk ... or by taking it superficially as we might scan a newspaper article ... or letting other concerns in our lives choke it out, as happens when we try to do two things at once.
Lord, let us take in your Word and let it work its wonders within us.
