Prayer is one of the traditional practices of Lent. In this year's Little Black Book, each Sunday's reflection will offer some tips about prayer.
The best way to learn how to pray is to pray.
Prayer isn't complicated. Unlike learning to play a musical instrument, it doesn't take months or years to learn how to do it. We are made for prayer. Everyone is a "natural" when it comes to prayer.
We just need to do it.
Prayer should be enjoyable.
Early recollections of "having to pray" or of hard kneelers can get in the way of the simple truth that prayer is enjoyable. There may be difficult times of prayer, but generally, it should be enjoyable.
Find ways to make it so: a pleasant place to pray, a comfortable chair, a candle, and, with some forms of prayer, a cup of coffee.
Most of all, find a form of prayer that you enjoy.
