- 1 John 2:3-11
The First Letter of John is the first of three "Epistles of John" which were written some years after his Gospel but for the same community for which the fourth Gospel was written.
The letter was written at a time when problems had arisen which seriously divided the community. Many people disagreed on how to interpret the teachings of the Gospel. Some members believed that as long as you had faith in Jesus, it didn't matter what you did in daily life.
This letter makes it clear that true disciples strive to have no gap between their faith and their deeds - between what they believe and what they do. They walk the talk. They live their beliefs.
This Christmas season might be a good to for you to reflect on places in your life where there may be a gap between the beliefs you hold dear and how you live.
