The name for this child was given to Mary at the Annunciation. It is a heaven-given name. "Jesus" is the Greek form of the Hebrew name "Joshua." (Since the Gospels were written in Greek, this is the form of the name that has been handed down to us.) The Hebrew "Joshua" means "Yahweh, help!"
This name sounds similar to another Hebrew word which means "salvation" and so the name took on the popular meaning of "save." Either way, it expresses what Jesus came to do: To help, to save.
Where in your life do you most need the Lord's help?
This is not the time for a long list. What is the one part of your life where you need this help the most?
Spend a minute now, thinking this over.
Then ... spend anothre minute quieting down, clearing out all thoughts, and listening to hear how God answers that same question. God will speak to you, if you make room to let God speak. And what God says might be different than your own judgment.
Listen.
