Many scholars have taken today's passage as the original ending of Mark's Gospel. The women are going off and not telling anyone about the angel's message because they are afraid.
There is evidence in ancient literature of what are called "suspended endings." The writing simply ends, leaving the story to continue in the lives of the readers.
So it is with this ending.
However, we do know what happened afterward.
The initial fear of the women was not the last word.
Christ and his message were proclaimed everywhere.
Through your baptism, you have received the command to take the Gospel message far and wide. Sometimes you are afraid to spread the good news of the Gospel.
Thankfully, your fear is not the last word.
