Only John speaks of this small group "standing by the cross of Jesus" - his mother, his aunt, another woman named Mary, and Mary Magdalene. (In the next verse we'll see that the beloved disciple is with them.)
Where are the rest? Hiding? Busy getting ready for the Passover meal?
Today's prayer time might be spent placing myself in this small, faithful group at the foot of the cross.
Picture their faces. Hear them speak to one another. Did they speak to Jesus?
Imagine what their thoughts and feelings are.
It's a good way to pray.
