Mary Magdalene has just realized that the person right there in front of her is Jesus. he looks different now, but it's Jesus alright.
Mary weeps for joy. She kneels in front of him and reaches to embrace his feet.
But Jesus says something that at first seems odd. He tells Mary that she can't hold on to the past. She has mistaken this miraculous appearance as his permanent presence.
It isn't as though Jesus simply endured a required penance on our behalf (his suffering and death), and now that it's over, has come back to visit. His death was a "passing-over" to a transformed human life with God.
And "from there" he will also be present to us by sending his Spirit upon us.
Jesus is telling Mary that things won't be like they were before. They'll be better. He will send his Spirit upon us. He is no longer limited by space and time. He is now able to give himself fully to us, his Spirit to your spirit.
It dawns on you that this is good news not only for Mary Magdalene, but for you. You don't have to wait in line to meet with Jesus. You don't have to worry about other who are "more important" and have better access to Jesus. No. This risen Lord Jesus speaking to Mary is now able to be present to you wherever you are.
You are as important to Jesus as Mary Magdalene is.
